This is a map showing the journey we are going to be taking through India. The dark red line shows our journey down from Amritsar to Kolkata (Calcutta) via Dehli, Agra, Varanasi, Sarnath and the Sunderbans. Whilst we are in India, we are going to be travelling by train, mini bus, boat and plane.
The Sunderbans represents a unique ecosystem supported by mangrove forests and interconnecting waterways. Situated to the south of Calcutta, this UNESCO world heritage site is home to the largest population of wild tiger in the world. Spreading over 54 islands the Sunderbans provides the lifeblood for many communities in the region. We will explore this region by boat and on foot to study the diverse wildlife as well as visit one of the villages.
