Sophia provides her thoughts on the 2019 trip to Udayan

With 14 days to go until the 2019 group of Year 13 students from St Joan of Arc Catholic School set off for India to visit Udayan – our whole school charity, Sophia, one of the students on the trip tells us how she’s feeling about the trip.

I cannot wait to finally travel to Udayan!

After hearing about soooo many amazing experiences of Udayan since year 7, I knew I had to go and experience them for myself, and while the trip seems slightly daunting, the excitement I feel is incomparable.

What I am looking forward to the most is meeting all of the children and fully immersing myself into the community of the school, while also being able to explore a new culture and city. I feel privileged to be able to go for myself.

I also understand that there will be times during my trip that may be difficult, however after I leave, I will leave with a newfound appreciation of what I have in the UK.

After taking our group photos and organising our trial of traditional cuisine the trip feels closer than ever and I truly cannot wait to see what I will discover in India!

Exciting days ahead for sure Sophia, for you and the other members of the team. The next couple of weeks will fly by and you’ll be there at Udayan with the children before you know it! Relish the preparation. Relish your time with the children. Relish the rich experiences in store for you, among them meeting some amazing people doing extraordinary work among the poor. Very best wishes, Caroline
