On Tuesdays we do henna

Today began with Liam’s murder.

For those for whom this is their first blog post, you should know that we’re playing an ongoing game of The Traitors, now in season 3! Conversation over breakfast turned to looking forward to getting home and the things we’ve missed. After mourning Liam’s departure (from the game), and dreaming of steak and McDonald’s, we got ready to give the wall a second coat of paint.

Today we met Emily Menon, the Chair of Udayan’s Governing Body. Emily quit Australia for India in her early 30s to work in the charity sector. She now runs a business helping the financially well-off who want to make a difference with their philanthropic investments. Emily joined us for a visit to the local Sewli Boy’s School. Their school has over 1700 pupils (500 more than JOA) in a much smaller space. They are never oversubscribed, because they squeeze in everyone they can.

After the school we went to Gandhi Ghat, a monument, gardens and holiday cottages on the banks of the Ganges (known locally as the Hooghly). Here we had some chai and coffee whilst Emily asked us about our plans for the future. On our way home Emily and Director Dipak popped into a local hospital to visit Safik, an employee of Udayan and a former boy of Udayan in the 1970s who was in for a suspected heart attack. The diagnosis is that he’s suffered a mild stroke. Please keep him and his Udayan family in your prayers.
