Great British Drape-off
Saree, not saree about the pun
Today we woke up at 5am with the local mosque call to prayer. We saw the girls pray and then went to help the chefs cook. Annabel wore black today (for all the eager readers).
We all had breakfast to prepare for a day in Vidyala – Udayan’s primary school. Breakfast was not curry so we loaded up on white bread, toast and strawberry jam – classy!
Miss Bowden and Liam are singing karaoke whilst writing this (badly).
Ed. It wasn’t ‘karaoke’ it is musical theatre! Lion King Live!
We then went to help the children in their classes. I made paper chatterboxes for the children and helped them with their maths as others helped in other subjects.
Lunch was nice potato curry. After this we went to a department store to buy our Indian outfits – a long-standing tradition of this India trip. The sarees there had so many beautiful colours and details on them. Back at Udayan we were fitted for our sarees by Gita, the girls’ house mother.
After this we got to meet small groups of children. The language barrier still made it difficult to understand more about the children’s background, but we enjoyed hearing about their hobbies and their favourite things.
Tomorrow we visit a leprosy colony founded by Saint Mother Teresa on our way to the City for the weekend.
