Monsoon
We started the morning without our standard wake-up call from the mosque at 5 am and contrastingly opted for a 9 am wake-up in a quieter, more restful state. We later discovered there are no fully restful days when in India! A more European-style breakfast followed with faces delighted to see pancakes and chocolate sauce.
Shortly after, the chaos began, and the second we stepped out of the hotel it proved to be an experience, to say the least. We embarked on our walk into the City of Joy with a drizzle of rain, which later turned torrential. We waded in water up to our shins, shivering dogs, dust-ridden rain staining our white tops and linen trousers. While locals sheltered themselves, we decided to practically swim our way back to the hotel.
We eagerly showered, ready for the market, where Victoria and Macie displayed their incredible haggling skills. We were able to get some souvenirs and gifts for family as well as accessories for our Indian outfits. This was followed by a pizza and pasta dinner, with Skittles and chocolate from the international supermarket for dessert. We then finished our rather eventful rest day with a heated game of Mafia/Traitors, with Erin (who was too exhausted to realise that she was a traitor herself) winning the game. Overall, our rest day was as restful as it could’ve gone as a group of 14 Brits in India.
