Never trust the weather app
Today we attempted to wake up early for the full experience of a day at Udayan. The call to prayer from the local mosque managed to wake some of the group up at 5am, whilst others were woken to the pitter-patter of little feet around the building. Some are clearly still on GMT and failed to show until mid-morning! Those who rose listened to the morning prayers and watched some of the boys do their morning run around the field.
This morning their was a new breakfast. It tasted like sugary porridge in a semi-solid mush served with the the usual omelette, toast and bananas. We then spent the whole morning going into different classes at the Udayan Vidiyala (primary school). We sat in on maths, english and science lessons. In these classes we did lots of colouring, games and writing our signatures in their work books! After this we then tried a new lunch – chicken biryani! Today has been a favourite day for food, but we’re also looking forward to some ‘western’ scran at the weekend in the city.
In the afternoon, some of us watched the boys play football with Liam in the orange team and Michael on the blues. The boys play football in their cottages/houses which can get a little serious. Others played badminton. These children have never had a parent or family member come to watch them play football, so cheering them on was a big deal. Madame Isa (Isabella) was a hit with the boys and was constantly asked to play games and have photos with them.
Then is was Traitor time… we all voted Ruby as traitor which she was. Ruby then accidentally outed Liam as her accomplice! After a short but sweet game, a swiftly rebooted season 2 has begun, this time with 3 traitors. Speculating and inquiries were cut short as a storm hit which no weather app had predicted, so we battened down the hatches and rushed inside to write the blog before dinner… more biryani we hope!
